Balancing the Chill and Enjoying the Colors.

Hello and happy fall!
The leaves are the warmest colors and driving amongst them on these winding upstate roads feels like being in a novel...which is great for inspiring creativity!... more writing, play Scribbly, my guitar, sculpting and making soup and other random things I am excited to wake up to.

Soups, baking veggies and breads, mulling ciders.... the coziness of it all a good balance to keep the chill at bay. One of my new projects is providing that while giving my furries a place to warm spot crash... I quilted old sweaters onto a flannel sheet... the warmest blanket ever :o) !

Yippeeeeeee, I am now scouring thrift stores and friends 'to donate piles' for discarded wool sweaters.... what a great project to work on while listening to my favorite radio shows. Okay, off to walk Sadie-istic and draw the trees as they shed there colors to crunch under wandering feets.

Chasing away the chill

Hello there!
Its chilly this morn, the last Fog and Thistle CSA share was last Tuesday and being curled with my dog in flannel pjs under wool blankets was not too warm last night...
Oh yeah, and it's dark by 6:30... eek winter is almost here. The yummy part is chasing away the chill with root vegtable soups and baked stuffs.
Why am I surprised each year when the chill hits? It is NY after all. -C

Making Plans with an Artist

I wish I could transport myself instantly from place to place.... there are so many things I want to do and often they are hours apart in travel time.... when in the city that doesnt necessarily mean they are that far apart. Depends on the day, time of day, weather...... on weekdays the 8am train is waaaaaaaaay more crowded than the 9:30am. Ok for work and all you would expect that so are saying, yeah no kidding. But the difference is still one that still surprises me.... from being so packed one can not easily turn their bodies to keeping from bumping someone. Someone who is also packed in with dozens of others who are plugged in to their electronic devices wired and stuck in their ears doing an Oscar performances of 'no one is actually next to me'. Still I look around and take in all in hoping it falls onto my page as soon I get in front of it. Often I draw on the subway but at that time of day (during the 5pm madness too) my arms have no room to move the pen.

Anyway, I am actually upstate right now.... I taped water color paper to my table and am layer lines on colors of various mediums. Yes today is Thursday and my dude has been a wonderful and understanding , thinking that I would be down on Monday, then the next day........ now its Thursday. When I said that I really meant it but what if I walk away from the lines, colors, chaotic a.d.d. layering of creativity through various projects throughout the day that I just love bouncing into when I wake up and cant get back to them .
And then I realize it isnt a what if... it is as likely as a it being 75degrees one day and snowing the next. Yeah, I get back to it eventually but it sometimes takes longer than I want to or is too something else when I do.
So I am going to work on this a while longer and wrap it up at its natural conclusion grateful that I popped out an artist and have incredible people to share love and life with.

Details Etc

Details.

The best sandwich is made with... bread with lots of grains and seeds, sprouts are a plus :)

The place I feel safest is...
in my studio, creating.

I love the sound of...
water, Chopin, silence.

The first poster on my bedroom wall was... Donny Osmond

The vice I am glad I got rid of...
smoking cigarettes

As a child, I wanted to be...
an artist

The first time I got drunk was...
I think I was 12ish, living in Boise, Idaho.... was at LeAnne's and I drank a bit of what was in the glasses on the table during a get-together when no one was looking. Put myself to bed... when my mom poked her head into Megan's room where I was bedded... (Megan was lying half under he bedwith a sock on her face)... I started singing happy good night to her she got wise to what we were up to. One of many times I one of her 5 kids left her unsure of whether to laugh or cry. Its much funnier now.

The best way to cook a potato is...
bunches of ways, many I learned I like at the Red Robin in Boise, and with mayo.

At night I worry about...
falling, failing, evaporating.

The first thing I do in the morning is...
draw, write and (unfortunately) check facebook.

Plane, train, or automobile...
yes, boats, bicycles and feet too.

Oh yeah
... and I finished my drawing!!!... Okay, so that wasnt really an afterthought. :)
am very excited!
Its approximately 2x5 feet (26"x60") YEA
The details are lost in this lowlight rather crummy shot but I didnt want to wait till natural light appears in the morning time.

Drawing on a sunny Sunday

Hello and good Sunday to ya'all,
My day was to consist of hanging at the ocean by the boardwalk of Coney Island, eating soup in China Town and enjoying the movement of the city through the warm, much awaited spring. It does seems as tho the morning sun, combined with adoration for color and other random factors, are keeping me at my blotter paper till I finish.... Really want to pull the pages of typing paper, put there to protect what I had already done, off and meet my drawing in its entirety.
Oh yeah, and there is all that work I blew off while whimpering in pain through my tooth aches and the grant that I should finish cuz I really want to move forward, letter to heir mossman, make ballllllllllllllllllllm etc etc etc.

The birds are chatting outiside my window, backed by the sound of sporatic traffic, I am going to go make tea.

I Noticed.....

Things I Notice:

-My cat likes to shit as soon as clean the litter box.
-Accomplishing things on my list seems to add new stuff to my list.
-My drawings are better when they are free-er... all my art is actually.

I like my new fish drawing that I did on an old atlas page...
am obsessively working to get my blotter finished.

Awake at 4am

o

Hello and good morning in the wee hours of the definition of the word.
Yesterday was day 27 of 30 dresses in 30 days. It was a cold and rainy day and I had to errand soooo I bundled up in layers and included one of my favorite skirts, so comfy and there is a color to match everything, or nearly everything.

Living alone works for me best I think, tho I do ponder the alternative, I am not so easy to live with when I want to zone out the world and create. Walking into a room of friends art and Freddy (lower left corner) I feel welcomed and ready to work.
Read some more of Maira Kalman's 'Principles of Uncertainty' and added more color etc to the blotter paper on my computer table. It is really a counter that was never installed on top of two military water canisters that are full of art supplies and sculpture covered with paper from a roll Andrea gifted me a few years ago and I am still enjoying the possibilities of so much surface at my pencils tips.
The water is boiling on the stove awaiting the noodles I am about to add to the rolls of bubbles and perhaps add coffee to my snack. Its 4:10 am and after sleeping a toothache away after drawing since 2:30 p (with a brief whiny away at 6:30p) I am now wide awake and motivated. Boy, I think I may be sleeeeeeeeeeeepy later.
Gonna go see what pops out above the giraffes head after I snack. TTFN PS OC

A creative Eyeore kinda day.

Its funny how I look for clean clothes in my drawer when I know I didnt do laundry, or something to nosh on in the fridge when I didn't yet market.
Feeling rather sick today, its cold and rainy and rather.... Where the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep is spring?
Added some doodles to my blotter paper that has now become a work of art two of my best friends have both said 'mine' to when I texted images to them.
Best friends are like colors to me..... the joy is tingling and impossible to consistently like one more than the other. To be blessed with the quirky crew that I have.... whoa!
My life feels like my drawings.
I often feel like a cartoon, suppose thats what happens when one is raised by artists and a cartoonist and pops out with the itch to create herself.
Well, I am going to go balance creating with curling up with soup and tea and cozy away from the cold raininess that is outside my window.
What are ya'all doing to stay nurtured and creative today?

My artist brain

Hello and happy Wednesday.
It is amazing how many emotions one can, I can, feel in the course of a day, oh hell in an hour, or even 5 minutes sometimes. Is that a sign of the times, the artist brain, just the way it is or just me. I dont think its just me. If I remember to hang by the water, walk the tracks, blow bubbles and turn the video recorder off in my head the colors that go with the music are alot more pleasant.......... or just bring the whole noisy, chaotic party of voices to the studio and hopefully the answers will fall out. At the very least I will find refuge in the zone for a while with a souvenir from the process. CM

Spring, 30 dresses and texture.

30 dresses in 30 days

hosted by Five and Diamond Vintage Store in Hudson NY.
We wear dresses each day of April to celebrate the onset of spring. I am loving the romantic feel of dressing funky, cute, pretty just because. Tomorrow is day 5... what to wear? :)

Life is interesting and a constant source of suprise and wonder to me... someday I hope to be more graceful, though my wiring does add texture. Am working on a couple of books and some interesting wearables that I am excited about. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand my indoor garden is on its way.

What are all of you excited about during this budding season of color, wonder, sunlight and dreams.

March 25, 2010 - drawing the verb 'boast'

Was surfing the net last night and found a site - www.oneminutemuse.com which excited an inspired me to join and dive in.
Its a sight about art jouraling and has quick technique tips, workshops, videos.... oh go go check it out.
One of the current workshops (free) is 'Verb'. There is a sheet (3 actually) of verbs and a 'verb finder' to cut out.... I closed my eyes, placed it down and got 'boast'. This is the page that came from it.
Chose two other words already and want to use other techniques they offer in those.... then off to the mandala workshop (same site).
Oh, and there is my website to work on, jewelry to make, hang tags to design, etsyshop to post on.... better get off my blogging toucas and get to it. :)

What I did on March 22nd, 2010

Hello
Am working within throws of artistic a.d.d... or is that a redundant statement in that, of course they go together?!
Did a stop motion yesterday of the process of cleaning off my kitchen table, which has become a studio surface, as are most in my apartment.
http://www.youtube.com/user/peacefulshades?feature=mhw4#p/u/0/QhucGd1DmY4
check it out if you like, I think it's interesting and moderately cool. :)

March 16, 2020 - A Burrito and a Few/Four Corpses

Went to Evan's .... getting me out of the studio is not the easiest of tasks as my friends can attest sooooooo he did not actually expect me when I excepted his invite. When I arrived he was still working on projects and such....
We settled into burritos he made, splitting the burnt one and non burnt one, Corona without fruit and drawing a few corpses.... two are below, the other two are attached to his wall with photo corners I made with copy paper and tape.

Monday March 15th, 2010

Went to John and Jeff's cooking class on Monday at Strongtree coffee.... main ingredient was coffee. Kinda like Iron Chef with the key secret ingredient but without the pressure and foodie judges who can crush your spirit on world wide television with one word.
It was a lively group and food was soooooooooooo yummy, Christophe's chili rocks! The wine, varieties of strong, interesting personalities while learning to make what was melting on our tounges wrapped up by the last two songs at open mic shared with my dear P.G. made for a wonderful Monday.
